PNG output is always lossless, so there is no quality setting to weigh up: the pixels decoded from your JPG file are stored exactly as they are. The only thing to know is that the file may well be larger than the original, because lossless storage costs bytes.

What PNG does to file size
The PNG will be several times larger than the JPG.
That is inherent: you are storing photographic detail losslessly.
This does not restore quality. Any compression artefacts already baked into the JPG are preserved perfectly, and converting to PNG cannot add back detail that was discarded. It also cannot create transparency — you get an opaque image with an alpha channel available.

Does converting JPG to PNG lose quality?
Writing PNG is lossless, so the pixels handed to the encoder are stored exactly. What PNG cannot do is undo compression that already happened in the JPG file — the result is faithful to the source, not better than it.
Can I just rename the file to .png?
No. The extension only labels the file, while the bytes inside follow the structure of a specific format. Renaming produces a file most software refuses to open. A real conversion decodes the image and re-encodes it in the new format, which is what happens here.
