Add a text watermark to a photo

Drop your photo in, type your name or a short line under Watermark text, and it appears on the preview straight away. Drag it to where you want it and press Add watermark.

You have four typefaces to choose from (Sans, Serif, Mono and a handwritten Script) and any colour, with white, black and a few accents one click away. Under Appearance, Opacity fades the mark into the photo, Size sets its width as a share of the picture's width, and Rotation tilts it. Sensible starting points for a mark in a corner are around 50 percent opacity and 20 percent size; adjust by eye on the preview.

Placement works two ways. Drag the mark anywhere on the preview, or pick one of the nine spots under Position: the corners, the middles of each edge, or dead centre. A dragged position is kept until you choose an anchor again.

Use your own logo

Switch the tab from Text to Logo and choose the file. PNG, JPG, WebP and SVG all work, and a PNG with a transparent background gives the cleanest result because only the logo itself is stamped, not a box around it. Opacity, size, rotation and position then behave exactly as they do for text.

Watermark a whole batch at once

Drop in all the photos from a shoot, or everything you are about to post to Instagram, set the mark up once, and press Watermark 48 images. The mark lands in the same place on every photo, and because its size is a share of each photo's width rather than a fixed number of pixels, it looks the same on a phone snapshot and a full-resolution export. The results come back as a ZIP, each in the format it arrived in.

The preview shows whichever photo is selected in the strip. If the batch mixes portraits and landscapes, click through one of each to make sure the position works for both before you press the button.

Tile the watermark across the whole image

A single mark in a corner is easy to crop off. If the point is to make the photo hard to reuse, turn on Tile across image and the mark repeats in a staggered pattern over the whole picture. Drop the opacity to 15 or 20 percent when tiling; the repetition does the work, and at corner-mark opacity it swamps the photo.

Tiled marks are what stock libraries use on their previews, for the same reason: removing a pattern that crosses faces, skies and edges takes real effort, where removing a single corner mark takes one crop.
