Fix a photo that is sideways or upside down

Drop the photo in, pick a turn under Rotation, and watch the preview. When it looks right, press Apply.

90° is a quarter turn to the right, 270° a quarter turn to the left, and 180° turns it upside down. The Result readout spells out what will happen before you commit, and the button stays off until you have chosen something, since applying no change would only re-save the file.

Turning by right angles costs nothing in quality. Every pixel simply moves to a new position, with no blending or guessing, so the picture after the turn is made of exactly the same pixels as before.

Flip or mirror an image

Under Flip, Horizontal mirrors the image left to right and Vertical mirrors it top to bottom. You can combine a flip with a rotation in the same pass. The easy way to tell which you need: if any text in the picture reads backwards, that is a flip; if the picture is on its side, that is a rotation.

Selfies are the common case. Front cameras often save the mirrored view you saw on screen, so lettering on a shirt comes out reversed. A horizontal flip puts it right.

Rotate a whole batch at once

If a camera saved a whole set of photos sideways, drop them all in. The same rotation or flip applies to every one, the button reads Apply to 36 images, and you get a ZIP back. The preview shows whichever photo is selected in the strip, so click through a few to check before you press.

Why a photo looks fine on your phone but sideways everywhere else

Phones usually save a photo exactly as the sensor saw it and then write a small note in the file saying which way is up. Your phone, and most modern software, reads the note and shows the photo correctly. Plenty of websites, email clients and older programs ignore it, and show the raw sideways picture.

This tool fixes the picture itself rather than the note. Rotate until it looks right in the preview and apply; the saved file is genuinely the right way up, so it displays correctly everywhere, including places that never read the note.

Frequently asked questions

Does rotating reduce the quality?

No. Quarter turns and flips are exact pixel moves. The file is saved again afterwards at a high quality setting, which is the only step that touches the pixels, and it is not something you will see.

Can I straighten a slightly tilted horizon?

Not with this tool. It does quarter turns and flips only. Straightening by a few degrees needs the picture resampled and its corners cropped, which is a different kind of edit.

Why is the Apply button greyed out?

Because nothing has been chosen yet. Pick a rotation or a flip and it comes on. With 0° and no flip selected there is nothing to apply.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything on this page runs inside your browser, so the files never leave your device. That is also why there is no file size limit and why the tool keeps working if your connection drops.
