Crop a photo
Drop a photo in and a selection box appears over it. Drag the corners and edges until the box covers the part you want to keep, then press Crop.
As you drag, the Output readout shows the exact size in pixels of what you will get. Hold Shift while dragging a corner to keep the box's proportions, or Alt to resize it from the centre. Cropping only removes what is outside the box; the pixels you keep are untouched, so there is no quality to lose.
Crop and resize for Instagram, YouTube, or a profile picture
If the picture is going somewhere with a fixed shape, choose that shape first under Aspect ratio. The box then stays that shape however you drag it, and you decide what gets cut rather than letting the site decide for you.

A ratio fixes the shape but not the pixel count. If the destination also wants exact dimensions, say 1080 × 1350 for a 4:5 post, crop to the ratio here and then use the Next step tile to send the result to Resize for the exact numbers.
Passport photo size maker: 35 × 45 mm, 2 × 2 in
- Under Passport & ID photos, choose the size the form asks for: 35 × 45 mm for most countries including the UK, EU, India and Australia, 2 × 2 in for the United States, or 25 × 35 mm, the small size some application forms want.
- The box locks to that shape. Drag it so the face is centred with a little room above the head.
- Press Crop. The file is saved at the exact pixel size for printing at 300 DPI: 413 × 531 for 35 × 45 mm, 600 × 600 for 2 × 2 in, 295 × 413 for 25 × 35 mm.
Many portals also set a maximum file size, often 50 or 100 KB. If yours does, the Next step tile sends the cropped photo straight to Compress, where you can type the limit. You can also open this tool with the 35 × 45 mm size already selected and bookmark it for next time.
Crop a photo into a circle
Switch Shape to Circle and the box becomes a round selection. Drag it over the face or logo and press Crop. Everything outside the circle becomes transparent and the result is saved as a PNG, so it drops straight into a profile slot or a slide without a square background showing.
Under Size you can lock the output to the common round sizes: Profile at 400 pixels, Icon at 512, or Thumbnail at 150. With a size chosen the circle's diameter is fixed and you only need to drag it into place. Free lets you size it yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Does cropping reduce the quality?
No. Cropping removes the pixels outside the box and keeps the ones inside exactly as they are. The only exception is the passport and circle presets, which resize the crop to an exact pixel size on the way out; that is done at a high quality setting.
Can I crop several photos at once?
Not here. Each photo needs its own box in the right place, so the tool takes one image at a time. Crop it, download or send it on, then Start over for the next. If what you actually need is every photo at the same dimensions, Resize handles a whole folder.
Which passport photo size do I need?
35 × 45 mm covers most of the world, including the UK, the EU, India, Australia and Canada's visa photos. The United States uses 2 × 2 inches. Check your form; if it asks for a size not listed here, crop to the nearest ratio and resize to the exact pixels afterwards.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything on this page runs inside your browser, so the files never leave your device. That is also why there is no file size limit and why the tool keeps working if your connection drops.
