What JPG does to file size
The JPG will typically be around twice the size of the AVIF, which is the same trade in reverse — AVIF is roughly half the size of JPG at matched quality.
AVIF can hold transparency and JPG cannot, so transparent areas are flattened. AVIF's wider colour and HDR capabilities are also reduced to standard 8-bit sRGB.
